Burned by Ellen Hopkins
Raised in a stern, abusive Mormon household, a teenage girl starts to question her religion and struggles to find her destiny.
Her father is abusive, her mother is submissive, and her church looks the other way. Confused and angry, Pattyn Von Stratten acts out and is sent to live with an aunt on a Nevada ranch. She finds the love and acceptance she craves, with disturbing consequences.

Ellen Hopkins has changed how books have been written for ages. Writing in verse, is both new and interesting, it brings the reader in and lets them visualize the setting and atmosphere in which the book are written. Burned is written no different than crank or glass, it is in verse and I became Pattyn in my mind, I was living what she was living through the book. Some will say that all of Ellen's books are depressing and downers. I believe that her books are enlightening those readers who rarely travel outside their comfort zone. Ellen has opened my eyes to new worlds, experiences and people. I would have never picked up this book, if not for my best friend, who also loves Ellen's work.

Glass by Ellen Hopkins
Crank. Glass. Ice. Crystal. Whatever you call it, it's all the same: a monster. And once it's got hold of you, this monster will never let you go.
Kristina thinks she can control it. Now with a baby to care for, she's determined to be the one deciding when and how much, the one calling the shots. But the monster is too strong, and before she knows it, Kristina is back in its grips. She needs the monster to keep going, to face the pressures of day-to-day life. She needs it to feel alive.
again the monster takes over Kristina's life and she will do anything for it, including giving up the one person who gives her the unconditional love she craves — her baby.
The sequel to Crank, this is the continuing story of Kristina and her descent back to hell. Told in verse, it's a harrowing and disturbing look at addiction and the damage that it inflicts. – source – back of my copy of GLASS

I absolutely loved how Ellen Hopkins pulls the reader back into the story. Once the monster has its say, Kristina/Bree cannot say no, no matter how hard she tries. As much as I wanted Kristina to step up and be a mother, I understand the pressure of being a young mother. I would recommend this sequel to anyone who needs to feel/read/see what happens when a drug takes over and you lose all control.

Crank by Ellen Hopkins
Life was good
before I
met
the monster
After,
life
was great,
At least,
for a little white.

On my best friends' suggestion, I read this book. I loved how Ellen Hopkins drew me in as a reader and kept me coming back for more. I actually felt what Kristina was feeling through the words on the pages. I would recommend CRANK to anyone who is looking for something new, different and interesting.

First book of 2010
Fallen
by Lauren Kate
What if the person you were meant to be with could never be yours?
There's something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori.
Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price's attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah, Georgia. He's the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move.
Even though Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce--and goes out of his way to make that very clear--she can't let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, she has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret . . . even if it kills her.
Dangerously exciting and darkly romantic, Fallen is a page turning thriller and the ultimate love story. ~ source the jacket cover
